Is it any wonder why lower class neighborhoods are more overweight? There is a McDonald's around every corner, and a large pizza at Little Caesars costs 5 bucks and can feed a whole family, rather than getting a 6 inch at Subway for 7 bucks and can feed only 1 person. The government has got to step into this, because I know firsthand the consequences of eating fast food. Face it, healthy food is simply just more expensive than junk food. There's no way lower-income families can eat healthier and help ward away diabetes if all they can afford are pizza and fries. Taxes on junk food need to be higher, and healthier food needs to cost less. Any one hear me, or should I rather just be talking to my cat?

First stop playing the helpless victim. It’s rather pathetic.

Second, rather than costly and unnecessary government regulations how about people don’t buy their product. Kind of a novel idea don’t you think? It’s not a toxic dust or tainted water, it a consumer product available to the consumer for purchase and/or consumption.

Buying or eating their food is not mandatory. Accepts this notion and you’ll be on the road towards personal responsibility.

Eva 1 and Woody are the same person. His real name is Deshan Woods. He is a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Everyday he comes to this website and leaves crude messages. It appears that he posts most of his messages using Air Force computers during Air Force work hours. He will deny that he is Deshan Woods, but I promise that this is true. A photo of deshan woods is at website: www.liquidcalories.com/90daypic.jpg

Where does personal responsibility end and corporate responsibility begin? Is it responsible for a company, say McDonald's for example, to tell the public a bald face lie? McDonald's lied when they said the new cooking oil would be utilized by Feb. 2003. What about the untold countless people who's health would have directly benefited from changing this oil? It's as simple as McDonald's having the responsibility to tell the public the truth! Is it not? ATB Joe

excellent point!
Before I became a vegetarian not too long ago, I tried eating more healthy (organic grocery stores, less processed foods) and let me tell you... it's EXTREMELY expensive to eat healthier as oppose to picking up a 99 cent Mc chicken sandwich.

Actually being a vegetarian has been a cheaper way for me to eat. But being healthy, you almost have to be RICH in order to be healthy.

It's a shame

I agree with you about healthy food being expensive. It's true. Fresh fruit and vegetables are way more expensive than the canned ones. And the thing is, the canned ones have almost 1/2 the amount of sodium you need in an entire day! Sometimes I really hate being poor.

It sounnds like a conspiracy to me, healthy is food is expensive thus it drives you towards fast food. Its all calculated! They are targeting the adults and children! Who is going to make the movie?(lol)

But seriously, if healthy food is too expensive yet the better choice, who is accountable for this pricing structure and what can the individual do?

I'd be interested to hear some credible solutions presented rather than the circular complaints.

Perhaps if McD's really wanted to promote healthy living, they'd be selling their much-hyped salads at the same bargain-basement price as their big macs

I hear you! I'm studying abroad this year, and my friend eats McDonalds 3 or 4 times a week. She likes it because that's what she ate as a kid, and it's cheap. Her family is not poor, but I think they have had some financial difficulties in the past. Also, if people had time to buy fruits and veggies at the grocery store and cook a meal, it would save money and be more healthy.
