McDonalds Exposed for False Advertising

BanTransFats.com, Inc. A California non-profit, filed a lawsuit against McDonalds Corporation for false advertising regarding its announcement they would implement a change to a new cooking oil with 48% less trans fat and that the change would be completed by February 2003. They have lied about this change, and to this date have not complied by the announcement.

on The Edge, Kathy Fettke’s guest Attorney and CEO of BanTransFats.com, Stephen Joseph will talk about the latest lawsuit being filed against McDonalds Corporation. Mr. Joseph has filed a lawsuit against McDonalds for false advertising regarding reduced Trans Fats in the cooking oil that is used in McDonalds’ fast food restaurants.

BTF previously sued Kraft Foods regarding the marketing of Oreo cookies containing Trans Fats. A few days after the lawsuit was filed BTF withdrew because their objective was to raise awareness of the issue and thanks to the media exposure Kraft had no choice but to abide by the lawsuit.

The McDonalds lawsuit brought worldwide attention by way of press releases distributed by them stating that there would be significant reduction of Trans Fatty Acids with improved cooking oil reduction bringing a step toward eliminating Trans Fats from their cooking oil.

But McDonalds never made the change to the new cooking oil, and made no announcement to the public that they had not made this change. False advertising, misleading the public and not taking the health of others seriously for profit is most disturbing and all that BTF wants is for McDonalds to “Come Clean”.
In the lawsuit, BTF asks for an order for McDonalds to inform the public about failure to use the cooking oil, with the same degree of publicity as they gave in September 2002.
Note: There is no money damages sought

The FDA finally recognized the danger of Trans Fats and has mandated the change in labels but unfortunately will not go into effect until 2006.

If the words “partially hydrogenated” are in the list of ingredients, don’t eat it!
The Edge with Kathy Fettke is joining BTF to help bring awareness to the lawsuit and to the harm of Trans Fats, a product that is linked to a greatly increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
