McDonald's says Surgeon Racist JoeMaggard Dec 21, 08:48 PM [ Reply ]
Wanna know how low McDonald's will stoop in an effort to discredit an innocent person they find threatening...UNBELIEVABLE! McDonald's has the nerve to accuse a Doctor who saves lives daily of being a racist!
Hell hath no fury like a corporation scorned

The head of the Cleveland Clinic, heart surgeon Toby Cosgrove, has criticized the presence of a McDonald's in the lobby of the hospital renowned for its cardiac care. So he decreed the fast-food joint had to go. McDonald's struck back. They defended their food as healthful and also suggested that Cosgrove is racist for targeting the African-American small businessman who owns the franchise at the clinic, raised the specter of unemployment for its 40 low-wage workers, and that closing down will hurt Ohio beef producers. [10]

As this dispute continues will we be hearing from McDonald's that attacking their menu also leads to gang violence, hunger, and increased global warming?

The ironic part about all this is that you are defending one corperation while castigating another.

McDonalds is a huge corporation, that is true, but so is the Cleveland Clinic and the good surgeon also. I've often wondered how some of these multi-gazillionaire surgeons feel driving their Lexuses (or is it "Lexi"?) and living in their mansions while their patients' families are holding fund-raisers and bake sales to help cover their fees. ;~D

(((and in answer to the question, before it is even asked... Yes, I do understand that the good surgeon and others at the Cleveland Clinic worked extremely hard to become doctors and especially to reach the top of their field. My point here is more towards those who resent greedy McDonald's making their gazillions, while discounting the greed of high priced doctors completely))).

Aside from what the doctor makes and what the Cleveland Clinic makes and what the Macdonalds Corporation makes the reason for wanting them out is still sound.
It is the same reason that here in Canada all drug store chains decided to stop selling cigarettes. They finally realized that the two things didn't fit. On the one hand they were trying to present themselves as stores that were interested in your health and on the other hand were selling cigarettes, something determined by the Surgeon General of Canada to be detrimental to health.

It seems to me the clinic and the doctor realize that to promote good heart health (which, I believe, is one of the main goals of a heart clinic), and then to offer to the patients of the clinic something that health professionals know is a contributor to heart disease (deep fried foods, fatty red meat, etc.), well, it's just not the message they want to convey.

Anyway, that's how it looks to me.

Now excuse me, but there is this Big Mac, Filet-o-fish sandwich and large fries with gravy that got my name on it.

Yes, it does seem a bit ironic to find a McDonalds in a facility with Cleveland Clinics international reputation for heart related conditions.

Of course, we should get rid of all such places in our medical centers. Do you realize that there are places in many of our finest cancer treatment centers that sell products that can cause:

A reduction in Red Blood Cell production, Anorexia, Increased risk of infection, Dizziness, Shortness of breath, Reduced clotting abilities in blood, Nausea/Vomiting, Hair Loss, Increased muscle tension, Depression, and even Death?

They're called Pharmacies. ;~D

Sounds like me after a 3 day bender.

Seriously, they probably should look at removing those nasty side effect products from pharmacies that operate within medical centers. For now, the more obvious ones will have to do. Especiallly if they have a large, recognizable corporate names attached to them like MacDonalds. Something that will get some publicity.

One bad-for-you thing at a time.

Hey guys thanks for responding to my post, I agree that there are Doctors that make gazillions while some mortgage the homestead to pay for surgery. But my questions is this: Is McDonald's so callous as to stay where they are obviously not wanted? And how could McDonald's have the unmitigated gall to accuse this Doctor of being a racist simple to try and shift blame? Thanks for your posts....Regards, Ronald

Probably for the same reason Starbucks so rudely insists on holding on to their store in the Little 5 Points area of Atlanta (a place where you'd swear a Grateful Dead or Phish concert must be playing 24/7))... because, no matter what those who don't want them there say, their customers want them there. And only one side is willing to vote with their dollars.

A few years ago in this small city of Kingston where I live there was a problem with MacDonalds. They had opened a new restaurant on our local base CFB Kingston. The residents of the base were ok about it, after all, they don't make much and they all have young families so the occasional cheap meal at Mikey D's wasn't such a bad idea to them. But after the restaurant had been there for a few weeks MacDonalds decided to erect a Golden Arches sign 200 feet in the air, you know, to let everyone for miles around see where the new MacDonalds was. The base took exception. I mean, when your an army base one of the last things you want is a huge, glowing golden arches lighting up the night sky smack-dad in the middle of the army personnel residences. If just makes the base and the personnel a very easy target.

Well Mc's fought it tooth and nail. Just on principle apparently. Eventually they lost, I mean, after all they were fighting the army. But it shows you how far MacDonalds is willing to go.
